News at Brookhaven College

For Release through April 13

DALLAS – The Dancers’ Theatre Spring Concert, April 11-13, will feature the premiere of the newly formed Dance Ensemble. The show combines the talents of the Brookhaven College School of the Arts and Early College High School students in dance courses with special guest performances.

Dances will range from lyrical to classical ballet to tap, with performances by students taking a variety of courses. The professional dancers and choreographers who teach as faculty members in the Brookhaven College School of the Arts choreograph performances. Professors Anna Marie Ewert-Pittman, Michelle Sherrill, Michael Mayes, Melissa Johnson, Eva O’Brien and Shannon Tate have created choreography for this performance.

Anna Marie Ewert-Pittman is the founder of Ewert & Company dance company. Michelle Sherrill earned her Master of Fine Arts in choreographic theory from Southern Methodist University and danced professionally with three companies. Michael Mayes has performed with Ballet Dallas, Ballet Metropolitan, Ballet Metrocrest and the Fort Worth Dallas Ballet. Eva O’Brien has an extensive background in choreographing and teaching various styles of dance with performance credits which include Total Dance Explosion, N2it and Ewert & Company. Shannon Tate is the co-founder of the Ground Level Dance Company. Melissa Johnson has taught dance in Dallas and Carrollton-Farmers Branch schools and currently teaches at the Dianne Cole Johnson School of Dance.

Dance Ensemble is the performance company extension of the Brookhaven College School of the Arts Dance Department. The dance company performs concerts at the college three times a year, for all levels and ages of dancers. They also have performed at The Dallas Morning News Dance Festival and the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival. The Dance Department at Brookhaven College offers classical ballet, modern, tap, jazz and hip hop courses for college credit or personal enrichment.

Performances are at the Brookhaven College Performance Hall April 11 and 12 at 8 p.m. and April 13 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the School of the Arts Box Office for $8 for general admission, $6 for senior adults and students.
